Energy-tech company, SOLshare, has become the first company from Bangladesh to win the Zayed Sustainability Prize at the 2022 Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week (ADSW) in Expo 2020 Dubai.
SOLshare is one of the 10 winners picked from 30 finalists who competed in five categories, said a press release on Monday.
The company has been operating in Bangladesh for over seven years to provide ICT-based services in clean energy, energy efficiency, and e-mobility in rural and urban areas.
SOLshare’s work in micro-mobility solutions is based on improving technology and financing options to empower electric three-wheel drivers to earn a higher income.
Dr Sebastian Groh, managing director of SOLshare, said: “The world needs new thinking to reduce energy poverty and carbon emissions. SOLshare does just that to equip vulnerable communities with much-needed energy services.”
“If we can do it from Bangladesh, you can do it from anywhere in the world and I think the Zayed Sustainability Prize is showing the way,” he added.
Currently, SOLshare has over 100 grids running across the country benefitting more than ten thousand beneficiaries, and five EV charging stations serving more than 300 end-users, reducing 76 metric tons of carbon dioxide emissions annually.
