Brac University celebrates 20th anniversary

Brac University on Saturday celebrated its 20th anniversary by organizing an online event, titled “20 YEARS OF MAKING AN IMPACT”.

The online event started with a video remembering Brac founder Sir Fazle Hasan Abed. A video highlighting Brac University’s 20-year journey was also screened, said a press release.

The event included speeches from Board of Trustees Chairperson Tamara Hasan Abed, Vice-Chancellor Prof Vincent Chang and  Dean of School of General Education Prof Samia Huq.

Dr Riaz Khan, former project head and member of the Governing Body and Academic Council, also shared a special video message at the event. 

Alumni and current students of Brac University also shared their messages.The event was broadcast live on the university’s official Facebook page.

Tamara Hasan Abed shared Sir Fazle’s views on education and said: “When I look back to the journey of Brac University, one of the first things that comes to my mind is the enormous passion our founder Sir Fazle carried while founding this institution.” 

“Twenty years later, the university is getting more and more connected internationally, collaborating with institutions from across the globe and experiencing a growing international student community here. The university is also focusing on student-centric, modern teaching-learning experience, and research with impact,” she added.

VC Vincent Chang mentioned that 20 years ago Sir Fazle founded the university to nurture leaders and talents for the country.

“Now the university has an ambitious aim to become a global university from Bangladesh.This journey is not very easy and not so quick, but the university can achieve it in next twenty years,” said Prof Chang.

Prof Samia Huq termed the 20th anniversary of Brac University a milestone. She said over the years, the university has emerged as a top institution in the country. Now it is looking forward to reinventing itself for the next level and continue the good work, she added.

Dr Riaz Khan shared memories of Sir Fazle who came up with the idea of establishing a university, and how they talked to the students and their parents. It was apparent that they were very positive about the idea of university.
