Wife of the sergeant Dr Sonia Samad has filed the case against him
A Chittagong court issued an arrest warrant against a traffic sergeant on Wednesday.
Judge Begum Ferdous Ara of the Seventh Women and Child Abuse Repression Tribunal in Chittagong passed the order.
Iqbal Hossain, a traffic sergeant working in Khulna, had been accused of torturing his wife for dowry.
According to the case, Iqbal had been pressuring his wife for a private car and a house in Savar of Dhaka. On July 25, Iqbal beat up his wife in Jorarganj area of Mirsarai for dowry. When she called 999, the police came to her rescue.
Iqbal also embezzled some money and his wife's jewellery, the case says.
The case was filed by Dr Sonia Samad under Section 11 (c) of the Women and Child Repression Prevention Act.
Later, the court directed the social service officer of Mirsarai upazila to submit the report by September 27, said lawyer Khandaker Ariful Alam, public prosecutor of the tribunal.
