A total of 14 people have been arrested so far

Police have arrested four more suspects over the attack on a madrasa inside a Rohingya camp that left six people dead in Cox’s Bazar’s Ukhiya.

Members of the Armed Police Battalion (APBn) and Ukhiya police arrested Shafiullah, a “head majhi” (community cluster leader) of camp 10, during a joint operation on Monday, said Ukhiya Police Inspector Gazi Salauddin.

Three more Rohingyas -- Farid Hossain, Jahed Hossain, and Md Hashim -- were arrested during raids in the camp early Tuesday, he added.

On Saturday, the father of slain Azizul Haque filed a case with Ukhiya police naming 25 people, said APBn Commanding Officer Shihab Kaiser.

Law enforcers have so far arrested 14 people over the murder and five of them have been named in the case filed over by a victim’s family.

Another 200 to 250 unidentified people are accused in the case.

On Friday, assailants armed with sharp weapons and guns attacked a madrasa at Camp-18, Block H-52 at Ukhiya’s Balukhali.

Four people were killed on the spot while others succumbed to their injuries at a local hospital.

Among the deceased were three madrasa teachers, two volunteers and a student while around 12 people were critically injured.

Soon after the attack, one of the assailants, who was later identified as Jasim, was arrested in possession of a locally-made gun and a sharp weapon.

A separate case was started by the police under the Arms Act against Mujibur Rahman, one of the assailants who was arrested immediately after the attack, said the senior police officer.

Witnesses said several teachers and students of the residential madrasa fled to a nearby mosque after the attack was launched.

According to the Rohingyas residing in the camps, a terrorist group wanted to set up a training centre at the madrasa which the authorities refused.
