Covid-19: Bangladesh records 10 more deaths, 339 new cases

Daily test positivity rate stands at 1.8%

Bangladesh reported 10 fresh fatalities from Covid-19 while the caseload jumped by 339 in the 24 hours to 8am on Monday.

With the latest development, the total number of deaths reached 27,778, while the number of total infections rose to 1,565,827 in the country.

On the other hand, another 509 patients recovered from the infectious disease across the country, taking the total number of recoveries to 1,528,371.

As many as 18,812 samples were tested across the country, yielding a positivity rate of 1.8%.

With this, the daily test positivity rate has stayed below 2% for three consecutive days, while the overall infection rate in the country stands at 15.48%.

The seven-day moving average of single-day deaths in Bangladesh was 11.2 on Monday.

In terms of deaths per division, Dhaka and Khulna logged the highest with three fatalities each followed by Chittagong with two.

Rajshahi and Sylhet counted one death each.

Of the new patients, Dhaka logged 266 cases, the highest among the divisions, followed by Chittagong with 31. No new cases were reported in 30 districts of the country. 

Meanwhile, the latest figures have put the recovery rate at 97.61% while the mortality rate remains static at 1.77%.

Around 38.47 million people in the country have received their first dose of the Covid-19 vaccine. Of them, some 19.16 million have taken both doses, according to DGHS data on Sunday.

Bangladesh reported its first three cases of Covid-19, a severe acute respiratory illness caused by a strain of coronavirus later named Sars-CoV-2, on March 8 last year. The first death was reported 10 days later.

The fast-spreading coronavirus has so far claimed over 4.91 million lives and infected more than 241 million people throughout the world, according to Worldometer.

More than 218.78 million people have recovered from the disease, which has affected 223 countries and territories across the planet.
