Police say the killings may have taken place over a land dispute
An elderly couple and one of their sons have been hacked to death at their home by another son in Mirsarai upazila of Chittagong.
The bodies of local grocer Mostafa Saudagar, 70, his wife Josna Ara Begum, 55, and son Ahmed Hossain, 25, were recovered from the home in Sonarpahar area on Thursday morning, said police. grocer
Jorarganj police OC Nur Hossain Mamun said neighbours had rushed to the house after hearing screams in the early hours.
He said they were notified about the murders around 5am. “We saw multiple sharp weapon wounds on all three bodies after we found them.”
Saudagar’s eldest son Sadek Hossain Saddam and his pregnant wife Ainur Nahar were taken into police custody for questioning after the bodies were found.
Saddam admitted to killing the three during preliminary interrogation later in the afternoon, Bangla Tribune quoted OC Mamun as saying.
He said: “We have learned that Saddam committed the murders following disputes over family property.”
Mostafa Saudagar’s youngest son Altaf Hossain said his father had given some land to Ahmed recently. Saddam used to get into fights with the parents over the issue regularly.
Police said they also recovered the knife Saddam reportedly used to commit the murders.
Mirsarai circle’s Assistant Superintendent of Police Labib Abdullah also told Bangla Tribune: “This is clearly a homicide case. Nothing was looted from the home.”
He added that specialist teams of Police Bureau of Investigation and Criminal Investigation Department from Chittagong visited the crime scene on Thursday and collected evidence.
The bodies were sent to Chittagong Medical College Hospital for autopsies while no case was filed until the afternoon, said the police official.
