Hasan: BNP sounds much as it has no public support

The minister reiterates that there will be no polls-time government in Bangladesh

Update : 07 Oct 2021, 10:01 PM

BNP sounds much like empty pitchers as the party has no public support, said Information and Broadcasting Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud.

"The recent statement of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina was justified as she raised questions saying why people will cast their votes for BNP” he said while responding to media queries at the Secretariat on Thursday.

"Will the people cast vote for BNP for hurling patrol bombs, blasting bombs at 500 places simultaneously and thronging bombs at court or grenade attacks like Bangabandhu Avenue or creating 'Bangla Bhai' and Shyaikh Abdur Rahman?" he posed the question.

The minister was speaking to the media after a meeting with leaders of Editors Forum who lauded him for taking steps to implement the clean feed foreign TV channels broadcasting.

Hasan, also Awami League joint general secretary, extended thanks to the forum leaders for their stance in favor of the clean feed.

Responding to another query over BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir’s comments on the formation of the Election Commission (EC), the minister said there are some "intellectuals" in the country who give different statements at various times and if they do not give any statement, how will the people accept them as 'intellectuals'?

The outgoing Election Commission was also formed through a search committee and a BNP-nominated person was also appointed as a commissioner in EC too, he added.

The next Election Commission will also be formed through a search committee, the minister said.

He said there is no scope for a caretaker government in Bangladesh. The present government will work as an election period government for doing routine works, he added.

Hasan said that the elections will be held under the Election Commission like England, the USA, India, and other countries of Continental Europe.

The minister said his ministry is working relentlessly to establish rules and regulations based on justice and fairness.
