SAJIDA Foundation on Friday launched a two-month-long virtual mental health campaign.

The initiative was kicked off with a webinar titled "Creating Hope Through Action" marking World Suicide Prevention Day.

The event was attended by mental health experts from both home and abroad.

The foundation, in a release issued on Sunday, observed that more and more lives are being lost to suicide due to the lack of awareness and an unwillingness to confront the mental anguish that leads to it.

So as a part of this campaign, the foundation will conduct seven more webinars to create awareness about mental health and wellbeing among the general people.

Md Zahidul Islam, Reabetsoe Noge, Dr Ashique Selim, and Dr Yeshim Iqbal were the panelists of Friday’s webinar.

Sriya Sharbojaya moderated the session.

Dr Ashique Selim, head of SAJIDA Mental Health Program said: “In order to raise awareness and dispel stereotypes about mental health and suicide, a coordinated effort is required.

“SAJIDA is working hard to promote, educate, and thereafter deliver mental health support to individuals who need it but cannot access it.”

Reabetsoe Noge, counselling manager at Lifeline Johannesburg echoed Dr Selim.

She said: “I believe I am serving people through safe emotional wellbeing spaces.”

SAJIDA Foundation’s initiative of enhancing focus on mental health, through a portfolio comprising financial products and services, specialized social enterprises, and community-centric development programs; resonates well with its effort to deliver meaningful and sustainable change in the lives of people from all strata.

Currently, the foundation is moving forward with the goal of developing and delivering quality mental health services for the lower-income and ultra-poor population, through an integrated, collaborative approach backed by evidence-based research.
