Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Tuesday said her prime goal is to build a happy and prosperous Bangladesh and uplift the people by transforming the tragedy of August 15 into a source of power.

“Inshallah, Bangladesh will become a developed and prosperous Sonar Bangla (Golden Bengal) free of hunger and poverty as dreamt by my father. Inshallah, that dream will be implemented,” she said.

The premier said this in her pre-recorded speech that was played at a program on the occasion of 46th anniversary of the martyrdom of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and his family members, and the National Mourning Day.

The program was organized by the National Implementation Committee for Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman's 100th birth Anniversary Celebration.

Awami League general secretary Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader, former University Grants Commission chairman Professor Abdul Mannan and Juba League chairman Sheikh Fazle Shams Parash also spoke at the program.

Sheikh Hasina, the eldest daughter of Bangabandhu, said that she has been following her father’s ideology with a vow to fulfil his dream of turning Bangladesh into Golden Bengal.

“He (Bangabandhu) gave his blood for the people of this country and left all of us indebted to his blood. We have to repay this debt of blood,” she said.

She also said that the sacrifice of the Father of the Nation must not go in vain.

Hasina said that it is her only aim to improve the living condition of the people of the country.

In this regard, she mentioned that since forming the government after 21 years of Bangabandhu’s assassination she followed the ideology of the Father of the Nation.

“My aim is to ensure no one will suffer from poverty and no one will be left landless,” she said.

She also said that the government has ensured healthcare facilities at the doorstep of the people and the light of education has reached every house.

“Bangladesh is a wonder of development to the whole world,” she said.

Talking about the brutal killing of Bangabandhu and his family members, Sheikh Hasina said that August 15 is the day of losing everything for the Bengali nation.

She mentioned that those who did not want the independence of the country and victory of the Bangalis brutally killed the Father of the Nation.

“And some people were betrayers and hypocrites, that is most unfortunate for us,” she lamented.
