The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has arrested Dr Ishrat Rafique Eshita and her associate on charges of swindling people with forged certificates and achievements in the capital.

Acting on a tip-off, a team of RAB-4 arrested Dr Eshita and her associate Shahidul Islam Didar from Mirpur on Sunday.

Dr Eshita used to swindle people by showing her multiple fake national and international awards including the International Inspirational Women Award, the Female Scientist of the Year Award, the Research Achievement Award from the UAE, the Test Gem Award from India, and the Outstanding Scientist and Researcher Award from Thailand.

She also used to introduce herself as a brigadier general, despite never joining any defense forces, to gain fame and embezzle money.

RAB Commander Khandaker Al Moin disclosed the information at a press conference at RAB'S media center in the capital’s Kawran Bazar.

Dr Eshita completed her MBBS in 2013 from a private medical college hospital in Mymensingh.

She worked at a private hospital in Mirpur in early 2014 and later joined a government facility on contractual basis. However, she was fired from the job after four months over immoral activities.

The RAB official said: “Dr Eshita started running various scams out of her high ambition. During the Covid-19 pandemic, she embezzled money by training several doctors.”

Dr Eishita was featured in national dailies and appeared on electronic media with her success stories several times.

Commander Moin said Eshita was arrested based on intelligence information and after surveillance of RAB’S cyber monitoring team.

Dr Eshita claimed to RAB that she had bought the rank of "brigadier general" from a website operating from the Philippines for $400.

However, the nameplate in front of her office used the designation of colonel before her name.

She also started an organization named Young World Leader for Humanity, which has no approval or registration.
