CID yet to complete DNA analysis of three other bodies
The forensic unit of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has identified the bodies of 45 out of 48 persons killed in the Hashem Foods Ltd factory fire in Narayanganj on July 8.
Their bodies will be handed over to the district administration after completing the DNA analysis of the three other bodies this week, officials said on Sunday.
At least 52 workers died in the deadly fire that engulfed the six-storey building at Rupganj. Four of the bodies were handed over to the families after autopsy.
Since the other bodies could not be traced, the CID collected samples from 66 relatives.
Deputy Commissiner Mostain Billah said that once they receive the bodies, those would be handed over to their families through an executive magistrate.
Each family will get Tk50,000 from the government for funeral.
The CID is also investigation the cases filed over the deaths at the factory, a sister concern of Sajeeb Group. Police arrested Sajeeb Group Chairman Md Abul Hashem, his four sons and three other officials after the incident, and quizzed them in remand.
Later Abul Hashem and his sons were released on bail.
On April 13 and 14, at least two dozen families of the dead workers received Tk2 lakh as compensation from Sajeeb Group, on condition that they would not demand any compensation in the future.
