Police asked to remain alert about the anti-state and anti-government activities

The police chief has directed the heads of different units to ensure highest security for the National Mourning Day programs on August 15 marking the 46th martyrdom anniversary of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

During a virtual meeting on Monday, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dr Benazir Ahmed also asked them to make sure the programs are observed maintaining proper hygiene and Covid-19 rules.

He gave the directives to all unit chiefs virtually from the Police Headquarters when senior officials were also present.

He said August is the month of mourning when the father of the nation and most of his family members were brutally killed.

Benazir reminded the police officers to remain alert about the anti-state and anti-government activities.

“We have to be very careful as grenade attack was carried out on August 21 [in 2004] and militant group JMB carried out a series of bombings in 63 districts of the country on August 17 [in 2005]. We have to be very alert and remain vigilant about terrorist activities and propaganda through social media,” the IGP said.

Benazir said: "Our position against drugs is 'Zero Tolerance’."

He warned that strict legal action would be taken if any police member was found involved in drugs-related crimes.

The IGP also asked all to bring police services to the doorsteps of the people through “beat policing”.

He said all police personnel as well as their family members must get vaccinated to prevent the transmission of coronavirus.

He said Bangladesh Police became a humane force by standing beside the people in the current Covid-19 crisis. He urged all to continue to help the people and win their hearts and minds.

Referring to the dengue outbreak, Benazir said all police installations should be kept clean and tidy regularly.
