Covid cases reach 84,579 with 1,344 deaths in Rajshahi division

Infections continue to surge in the 8 districts of the northern division

A total of 724 more people tested positive for Covid-19 in all eight districts in the division on Sunday, taking the caseload to 84,579 since the pandemic began, the health department sources said here today.
 
With 19 more Covid-19 related fatalities reported on the same day, the death toll reached 1,344 here, including 570 in Bogra, 246 in Rajshahi with 144 in its city and 140 in Chapainawabganj, said Dr Habibul Ahsan Talukder, divisional director of Health.
 
The new daily infection figure shows a little-bit declining trend compared to the previous day's figure of 808.
 
Among the infected people, 61,305 have, so far, been cured from the lethal virus with 729 new recoveries reported on the day.
 
A total of 12,270 infected patients are now undergoing treatment at different designated hospitals here.
 
Besides, all the positive cases for Covid-19 have, so far, been brought under necessary treatment while 19,826 were kept in isolation units of different hospitals for institutional supervision. Of them, 13,625 have by now been released.
 
On the other hand, 493 more people have been sent to home and institutional quarantine afresh while 422 others were released from isolation during the last 24 hours till 8 am today.
 
Of the total positive cases, the highest 222 were detected in Rajshahi, including 181 in its city, followed by 126 in Bogra, 123 in Pabna, 116 in Sirajganj, 66 in Natore, 31 in Chapainawabganj and 20 each in Joypurhat and Naogaon districts.
 
With the newly detected patients, the district-wise break-up of the total cases now stands at 24,454 in Rajshahi, including 19,685 in its city, 5,069 in Chapainawabganj, 5,973 in Naogaon, 6,909 in Natore, 4,218 in Joypurhat, 19,120 in Bogra, 8,605 in Sirajganj and 10,231 in Pabna.
 
A total of 1,01,236 people have, so far, been kept under quarantine since March 10 last year to prevent the community transmission of the deadly coronavirus (COVID-19).
 
Of them, 90,827 have, by now, been released as they were given clearance certificates after completing their 14-day quarantine.
 
Meanwhile, the surge in Covid-19 cases has been continuing in all the eight districts of the division since the beginning of the second wave making it a hotspot of the deadly virus.
