Covid-19: Rajshahi reports 1,006 new cases, 18 deaths in a day

Death toll in the northern division stands at 1,233

A total of 1,006 more people have tested positive for Covid-19 in all eight districts in the division on Saturday. It brings the caseload to 78,295 since the pandemic began.

With 18 more fatalities from the disease reported on the same day, the death toll reached 1,233, including 526 in Bogura, 223 in Rajshahi with 127 in its city, and 133 in Chapainawabganj, said Dr Habibul Ahsan Talukder, divisional director of Health.

The new daily infection figure shows a significant escalating trend compared to the previous day's figure of 407, according to health department sources.

Among the infected people, 54,972 have been cured of the lethal virus with 1,157 new recoveries found on the day.

A total of 10,902 infected patients are now undergoing treatment at different designated hospitals here.

Besides all the positive cases of Covid-19 treated so far, 18,108 were kept in isolation in different hospitals under institutional supervision. As of now, 12,433 of them have been released.

On the other hand, 629 more patients have been sent home and into institutional quarantined afresh while 678 others were released from isolation during the last 24 hours till 8am today.

Of the total positive cases, the highest 268 were detected in Rajshahi, including 214 in its city, followed by 242 in Bogura, 154 in Natore, 103 in Pabna, 98 in Sirajganj, 75 in Naogaon, 34 in Joypurhat, and 32 in Chapainawabganj districts.

With the newly detected patients, the total number of cases in Rajshahi now stands at 22,766, including 18,320 in its city, 4,824 in Chapainawabganj, 5,774 in Naogaon, 6,211 in Natore, 4,096 in Joypurhat, 18,094 in Bogura, 7,455 in Sirajganj and 9,075 in Pabna.

A total of 97,621 people have been kept under quarantine since March 10 last year to prevent the community transmission of the deadly coronavirus.

Among them, 87,456 have been released so far as they were given clearance certificates after completing their 14-day quarantine.

Meanwhile, the surge of Covid-19 cases has been continuing in all eight districts of the division since the beginning of the second wave, making the division a hotspot for the deadly virus.
