Vaccines to be bought at a rate lower than previously agreed upon
The Bangladesh government will procure a total of 15 million doses of Covid-19 vaccine from Sinopharm International of China at a lower price than previously agreed upon.
The purchase was approved at a virtual meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Government Purchase, chaired by Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal, on Wednesday, said ministry Public Relations Officer Gazi Towhidul Islam.
“Bangladesh received two million of the 15 million doses on July 2,” he said, adding that the reduced price would be applicable to the rest of the vaccines and an additional two million doses.
Bangladesh earlier received 1.1 million doses of the Sinopharm vaccine from China as a gift on two occasions in May and June.
The country has so far approved eight Covid-19 vaccines for use in its fight against the disease that has killed almost 17,000 people.
