Writer Muhammad Mohiuddin has been elected as the general secretary
Kazi Anis Ahmed, a writer and publisher of English daily Dhaka Tribune and online news portal Bangla Tribune, has been elected as the new president of PEN Bangladesh -- an international organization of writers, bloggers and journalists.
Meanwhile, writer Muhammad Mohiuddin has been elected as the general secretary. Vice-Chancellor of Rabindra University Biswajit Ghosh, Dr Ahmed Reza, Maleka Ferdous, Salma Bani and poet Shamim Reza have been elected as vice-presidents.
The organization's annual general conference and election was held on Saturday. The new committee has been formed for the term 2021-2023.
Ferdousi Mahmud and Lovely Talukder have been elected as joint general secretaries, Shakira Parveen as treasurer, journalist Mohsin Habib as publicity secretary and Zahid Sohag as office secretary.
Besides, Parvez Hossain, Mohammad Mohsin, Hamim Kamrul Haque, Anis Mohammad, Masud Hasan and Jahanara Parveen have been elected as executive members.
After partition, Pakistan PEN, a branch of PEN International, started its journey in 1948. At that time, its president was Dr Muhammad Shahidullah and its general secretary was Syed Ali Ahsan. After Bangladesh became independent in 1971, it was renamed as “PEN Bangladesh”.
