The Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation (BIWTC) has banned the transportation of people and vehicles carrying passengers by ferries until further notice.
Emergency vehicles, including ambulances, and vehicles used to transport goods will remain outside the purview of the ban, Shipping Ministry spokesperson Md Jahangir Alam Khan told Dhaka Tribune on Friday.

Earlier on June 30, the Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA) banned the movement of all passenger vessels from July 1 to July 7 in line with the enforcement of the nationwide all-out lockdown.
The ban was later extended till July 14 along with the lockdown in light of the worsening Covid-19 situation in the country.
