The Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives has asked the existing members of the Union Parishads (UPs), which have already expired and will expire soon, to perform their duties in order to remove the administrative hurdles till the holding of next election.
The decision was disclosed in a circular issued by the Ministry of Local Government on Tuesday.
It was also informed that the Election Commission (EC) has postponed the election in order to avoid public gatherings due to sharp rise of Covid-19 in the country.
Earlier, the By-election to Lakshmipur 2 constituency as well as regular polls to 204 UPs and two municipalities were held on June 21.
