The decision was taken to ensure proper implementation of the nationwide strict lockdown
Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has asked motorbike riders not carry any passengers during the upcoming nationwide strict lockdown from Thursday.
The decision was disclosed in a notification issued on Monday.
According to the notice, only motorbike riders will be allowed to travel the roads amid the lockdown, and they must do so without carrying passengers as it increases the risk of Covid-19 transmission.
People can use rickshaws to attend to emergency needs during the lockdown, the notification said.
Bangladesh is set to enter a seven-day strict lockdown from Thursday to curb increasing numbers of Covid-19 infections and deaths.
During the lockdown, people will not be allowed to leave their houses except in case of emergencies. Unlike the last lockdown, no movement passes will be issued.
Bangladesh Army, police and Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) will be deployed to ensure proper implementation of the lockdown and adherence to government regulations.
