An on-duty journalist was also assaulted
Some leaders and activists of Bangladesh Chhatra League allegedly attacked the members of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) on Dhaka University (DU) campus on Tuesday.
The university unit Chhatra Dal Convener Rakibul Islam claimed that at least 20 fellow activists were injured in the attack and of them, six were admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH).
"We came under the sudden attack by some Chhatra League men while taking preparations to distribute food and educational materials in the TSC area around 11:30am, as part of our leader Ziaur Rahman's death anniversary programme," Rakibul said.
Moreover, Amzad Hossain, DU correspondent of an online news portal named 'Dhaka Post', was also beaten by the Chhatra League leaders and activists when he was present there during the incident.
"Suddenly, Amir Hamza, joint general secretary of the Zahurul Haque Hall unit of Chhatra League, started beating me up while I stood near the spot to cover the incident," said Amzad.
Denying the allegations, DU Chhatra League General Secretary Saddam Hossain said, "We know nothing about the attack. The incident might have occurred due to internal conflict over the Chhatra Dal committee. None from Chhatra League is involved in the incident."
