The government has appointed Prof Rafiqul Islam as the new president of Bangla Academy.
Prof Dr Rafiqul will serve as the president of the institution for next three years, according to a government notice issued by the Public Administration Ministry on Tuesday.
He served as the director general of Bangla Academy in 2001-02.
The post fell vacant following the death of Prof Shamsuzzaman Khan on April 14.
