After a long two decades of closure, the Bangladesh government recently revived the post of Bangabandhu Chair at the University of Heidelberg
Prof Dr Harun-ur-Rashid, former vice-chancellor of National University, has been nominated for the Bangabandhu Chair position at the South Asia Institute of University of Heidelberg, Germany for conducting higher-level research.
19 senior teachers of different public universities applied for the position.
An eight-member jury board, including a representative of University of Heidelberg, unanimously selected Prof Harun-ur-Rashid for Bangabandhu chair.
On Wednesday, the news was virtually announced in an event organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, through Zoom.
Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen presided over the ceremony while Foreign Secretary Masood bin Momen expressed his gratitude.
Among others, German Ambassador to Bangladesh Peter Fahrenholtz, UGC Chairman Prof Kazi Shahidullah, UGC members, Bangladesh Ambassador to Germany Mosharraf Hossain Bhuiyan were present at the event.
