Subsequently, Shahed was sent back to Satkhira jail after the court fixed February 23 as the date for hearing statements of witnesses in the cases
A Satkhira court on Thursday framed charges against Regent Group Chairman Shahed Karim in two cases filed separately under the Arms Act and the Special Powers Act.
District and Sessions Judge Sheikh Mofizur Rahman issued the order on Thursday afternoon, with the accused Shahed present in the dock.
Subsequently, Shahed was sent back to Satkhira jail after the court fixed February 23 as the date for hearing statements of witnesses in the cases.
Speaking to Dhaka Tribune, Satkhira District and Sessions Judge Court Public Prosecutor (PP) Advocate Abdul Latif said: “The court framed charges against Shahed after he was produced before it on Thursday afternoon.
“At one point, the accused started to speak as he used to on TV talk shows. He was then stopped by the court.”
Earlier on 15 July, the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) detained Regent Hospital Chairman Md Shahed alias Shahed Karim from the border area of Satkhira when he was trying to flee to India.
During the drive, RAB 6 recovered a pistol, three rounds of ammunition and a magazine from his possession.
Later, Nazrul Islam, a RAB official, filed a case with the Debhata police station on the same day against Shahed Karim and Bachchu Majhi.
Shahed Karim was then made only accused in the case and remanded for 10 days.
