O level student death probe report delayed

The victim’s family filed the case earlier this month the same day she was raped and murdered

A Dhaka court on Tuesday fixed February 11 for submission of the probe report against Fardin Iftekhar Dihan, the lone accused in the case filed over the rape and murder of an O level student at his residence in Dhaka's Kalabagan area.

Metropolitan Magistrate Begum Yeasmin Ara Shadbir passed the order as Kalabagan police station Officer in-Charge (OC) AFM Asaduzzaman, also the investigation officer (IO) of the case, failed to submit the report before the court on Tuesday.

On January 7, the O level student left her house at around 11:45am after telling her mother over the phone that she was going to a coaching class to collect some worksheets, according to the case statement.

Dihan called the victim's mother at 1:18pm and said her daughter had gone to his house at Kalabagan’s Lake Circus area, where she had fallen sick.

Dihan asked her mother to go to the emergency department of Anwer Khan Modern Hospital at Kalabagan area, where her daughter had been taken.

When the victim’s mother reached the hospital, the on-duty doctor informed her that her daughter had been murdered after rape, said the case statement.

Following the incident, the victim’s father filed a case with Kalabagan police station against Dihan – who claimed to have recently passed his A Level examinations on the same day.
