First Bangladesh Navy chief Nurul Huq passes away

He served as the chief of naval staff from April 7, 1972, to November 6, 1973

The first chief of the Bangladesh Navy Captain Nurul Huq (retired) has passed away at a hospital in Dhaka at the age of 86.

Nurul Huq, who had been suffering from high blood pressure and diabetes for a long time, breathed his last at the Combined Military Hospital (CMH) on Monday night while undergoing treatment there, said a press release of the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).

After returning to Bangladesh from Pakistan in 1972, he served as the chief of naval staff from April 7, 1972, to November 6, 1973.

The namaz-e-janaza of Nurul Huq will be held at the Naval Headquarters Mosque after Zuhr prayers on Tuesday and he will be buried at the Military Graveyard in Banani following proper health guidelines amid Covid-19 outbreak.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina expressed deep shock and sorrow at the death of the first chief of naval staff.

She prayed for the eternal salvation of the departed soul and expressed sympathy for his bereaved family members.
