If the current trend of downloading BiP continues in Bangladesh, users of the app will be in the millions within a few weeks, says a Bangladeshi user
Owing to concerns about privacy protection on WhatsApp, people of Bangladesh have turned to Turkish messaging app BiP.
Currently, the Turkish app holds the top position among messaging apps on Google Play in Bangladesh, reports Anadolu Agency.
The messaging app is being downloaded in great numbers by smartphone users in South Asia, and BiP’s sudden rise in popularity can be attributed to positive word-of-mouth on social media. Aoulad Hossain, a journalist based in Dhaka, praised the app and said: "I think using the BiP app is safer than WhatsApp as the authority of the app has assured that they will keep all the information of the users secured."
He said he switched to BiP from WhatsApp due to the latter’s recent policy change.
As WhatsApp had changed its policy to share users' information with Facebook, he was concerned about his privacy and decided to use BiP, Aoulad said.
Lauding BiP, an IT professional working at a private firm in Dhaka said BiP needs to add more features like status and theme options.
"If the current trend of downloading BiP continues in Bangladesh, within a few weeks, users of the app will be in the millions," he added.
