The noted educationist taught at Bangla Department of DU for four decades
Renowned educationist and author Abul Kashem Fazlul Haque, a former professor of Dhaka University’s (DU) Bangla Department, has been appointed ‘Ahmed Sharif Chair’ Professor of the university.
Syed Azizul Huq, chairman of DU’s Bangla Department, confirmed the matter to Dhaka Tribune on Wednesday.
Razia Rahman Jolly, senior medical officer of the university and publisher at Jagriti Prokashony, congratulated Abul Kashem Fazlul Haque, her father-in-law, on the appointment via a Facebook post.
Fazlul Haque succeeds Sanjida Khatun, a former professor of Bangla and the president of Chhayanaut, who was appointed to the post for the first time in 2017.

Abul Kashem Fazlul Haque taught at the Bangla Department of DU for four decades. He has also held the position of chairman of the department.
He is a noted writer, researcher, translator, social analyst, literary critic and commentator.
He has been editing a magazine called “Lokayata” since 1982. The eminent author has published over twenty books and was a member of the editorial board of Nazrul Rachanabali (Essays of Nazrul).
Fazlul Haque also served as president of Swadesh Chinta Sangha from 2000 to 2013.
