Covid-19: Bangladesh records lowest single day cases since August

In the last 24 hours 30 people died from coronavirus, taking the death toll to 7,428

Bangladesh has logged 834 new Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours till Saturday morning, which is the lowest in almost five months since August 2 when 886 cases were recorded. 

With the new 834, the total number of cases on Saturday surged to 508,000, according to a press release issued by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

During the same period, 30 people died around the country from the disease, taking the overall tally to 7,428.

However, only 9,912 tests were conducted during the past 24 hours which is also lower compared to the last few months. 

Of the total samples tested, 8.41% tested positive, whereas 16.08% cases were detected from the total tests conducted so far, added the release.

Deceased

Among the total infections, 88.66% patients have recovered, while 1.46% died since Bangladesh detected its first three Covid-19 positive cases on March 8. 

Of the 30 victims, 23 were male, 7 female and all of them died in the hospital.

Of the total deceased 21 were aged above 60, five were above fifty, and four were above 40 the press release said.

The division-wise data shows that 20 deaths took place in Dhaka division, seven in Chittagong, one each in Khulna, Rangpur and Mymensingh.

Among the total 7,428 deaths, 4,064 deaths occurred in Dhaka division, 1,386 in Chittagong division, 431 in Rajshahi division, 523 in Khulna division, 236 in Barisal division, 290 in Sylhet division, 334 in Rangpur division, and 164 in Mymensingh division.

Recovery

The recovery count rose to 450,488 after another 1,685 patients were discharged from the hospitals during the period.

A total of 9,912 samples were tested at 163 authorized laboratories across the country during the time.

A total of 3,159,260 samples have so far been tested since the detection of the first Covid-19 cases in the country.

The DGHS said in order to make treatment facilities easily available for the Covid-19 patients, the government has introduced round-the-clock telemedicine services, comprising 100 physicians, in the country.

A total of 656,356 people have so far received healthcare services from telemedicine.

The DGHS said 23,249,857 people received healthcare services from hotline mobile numbers and health web portals as the government formed a group of medical professionals to provide emergency healthcare services.

Global Situation

On March 8, health authorities in Bangladesh reported the first three cases of Covid-19, a severe acute respiratory illness caused by a new coronavirus strain which was later named Sars-CoV-2.

The novel coronavirus broke out in China's Wuhan city in late December last year and quickly spread throughout the world, becoming a pandemic in less than three months.

The fast spreading coronavirus has claimed 1,758,906 lives and infected 80,266,489 people across the world till Saturday afternoon, according to Worldometer.

As many as 56,528,566 people have recovered from Covid-19 which has spread to 218 countries and territories across the planet.Bangladesh has logged 834 new cases in the last 24 hours till Saturday morning, which is the lowest in almost eight months since August 2 when 886 new infections were recorded.
