RAB claimed that the arrested accused are active members of an organized international snake venom smuggling ring.
RAB-2 has seized snake venom worth Tk75 crore from Dakshinkhan police station area of the capital while arresting six people on suspicion of being members of an international snake venom smuggling ring.
RAB-2 Senior ASP Abdullah Al Mamun confirmed this information on Friday morning, reports Bangla tribune.
He said they were arrested from Gulbar Munshi Soroni Road in ward no 50 under Dakshinkhan police station on Thursday afternoon.
The arrestees are- Md Masud Rana, 24, Md Sofir Uddin Shanu, 50, Md Tamjidul Islam alias Monir, 34, Md Alamgir Hossain, 26, Firoza Begum, 57, and Asma Begum, 42.
Senior ASP Abdullah Al Mamun said they searched a bag they were carrying and found 8.96 kg (including jar) of snake venom in glass jars with an estimated value of Tk75 crore. CDs and manual books on snake venom were also recovered from them.
Primary interrogation of the arrested accused revealed that there is huge demand of snake venom among a certain section of people. So, for making large profits, snake venom is being collected and smuggled from different parts of the world.
RAB also claimed that the arrested accused are active members of an organized international snake venom smuggling ring.
