A Bangladeshi contract worker died, while his friend was injured in a motorcycle accident at Jalan Merapoh-Kem Sungai Relau, Lipis of Malaysia on Tuesday.

The incident took place at about 10:20pm when their motorcycle hit an electric pole after colliding with a herd of cows.

Lipis district police Chief Supt Azli Mohd Noor said the victim Md Selim Ali, 28, and his friend Shalam Mohammad, 33, were on their way back to their house at Kem Sungai Relau after work, reports Malaysian news media.

He said: "As it was dark and the spot was in the middle of an oil palm estate, it is believed that Md Selim was not aware of the presence of the cows.”

"As a result of the collision, the motorcycle was thrown to the left side of the road before crashing into an electric pole. The victim suffered serious head injuries as it is learned that he was not wearing a helmet," he told reporters in a statement on Wednesday.

“Md Selim was confirmed dead at the scene by a medical officer at the Merapoh Health Clinic, while Shalam who fractured his left arm was rushed to Gua Musang Hospital, Kelantan,” he said adding that the body was taken to Kuala Lipis Hospital for post mortem.

Further investigations will be conducted under Section 41 (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
