This utter neglect from the authorities concerned is nothing but an insult to the great leaders who played a key role in forming the Mujibnagar government in exile that led the Liberation War of 1971, according to concerned citizens

For nine years now, the names of our four national leaders, inscribed on the honours board with their sculptures in Mujibnagar, have remained in the wrong order.

The honours board shows Captain Mansur Ali as AHM Qamruzzaman and AHM Qamruzzaman as Captain Mansur Ali.

This utter neglect from the authorities concerned is nothing but an insult to the great leaders who played a key role in forming the Mujibnagar government in exile that led the Liberation War of 1971, according to concerned citizens.

Freedom Fighter Abul Qasim Master, a resident of Radhakantpur in Meherpur, said: “It’s a pity that the persons responsible for the honours board did not notice the mistake the first time around. But there has been no chance of the mistake escaping notice for so many years. And if it was noticed, the fact that the corrections are yet to be made is even more frustrating.”

Mujibnagar Upazila Nirbahi Officer Sujan Sarkar said that even though the Public Works Department was responsible for correcting the honours board, the upazila administration would still send a formal request for the necessary changes to be brought about on the honours board.

On April 10, 1971, in Mujibnagar, elected parliament members of the 1970 general election from East Pakistan formed the Provisional Government of the People's Republic of Bangladesh.

The Mujibnagar Memorial Complex was built at the site where the cabinet took the oath of office on April 17, 1971, at Baidyanathtala (Bhoborpara) Meherpur, Kushtia (now Mujibnagar).
