The alleged rapist and his associates confined the girl’s family in their own house for six days
A ninth grader has been allegedly abducted from her house in the middle of the night and raped overnight by a man in Gangachara upazila of Rangpur district.
The incident happened in Umar village in Gajghanta union of the upazila on November 18.
Following the incident, the rapist and his associates confined the girl’s family in their own house and threatened to kill them if they filed a case. Later, the girl’s father managed to file a case with the Gangachara Model police station on Tuesday.
Gangachara police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Sushant Kumar Sarkar confirmed the matter on Wednesday and said efforts are underway to arrest the accused.
However, the girl’s family complained that the police could not arrest the rapist even after 24 hours had elapsed.
Al Amin, 27, son of Ruhul Kuddus from Umar village, had been harassing the girl for several months. Finally, on November 18, he abducted her from her own house and later raped her at his place. At one point, when the girl became unconscious, the rapist fled.
The next morning, the girl’s family started looking for her and later rescued her in an unconscious state from Al Amin’s house. She was then brought back home. However, her family was confined by the rapist for the next six days.
After the case was filed, police rescued the girl from her home and admitted her to the One Stop Crisis Center at Rangpur Medical College Hospital.
Police said that the DNA samples have been collected and the girl’s medical examination will be held on Thursday.
