He was held on Saturday night, hours after the case was filed
A Dhaka University (DU) student has been placed on three-day remand after another student of the university filed a case against him under the Digital Security Act 2018 and Pornography Control Act 2012.
Md Mofazzal Sadat, a second-year political science student, allegedly leaked naked photos of a female student on Facebook through a fake account. He had been in a relationship with her since March.
Sadat posted the photographs as the two had been arguing, according to details of the case filed at Shahbagh police station.
Soon after the case was filed on Saturday, the DU proctorial team picked Sadat up from the university's TSC area that night and handed him over to Shahbagh police.
"We produced him before court on Sunday and he was shown arrested in the case," said Shahbagh police OC Mamun-or-Rashid.
DU Proctor Prof AKM Golam Rabbani said: "It is an unexpected incident from a DU student. Police will take necessary steps and the law will ensure justice to the female student.
"After the legal process, the university will also take necessary steps if the female student wants.”
On Sunday, Dhaka Metropolitan Court Judge Md Ziaur Rahman placed Sadat on three-day remand after Shahbagh police Sub-Inspector (SI) Arifur Rahman, also the case investigation officer, produced him before the court , confirmed the court’s General Recording Officer SI Nizamuddin.
Sadat is reportedly an activist of Bangladesh Students' Rights Council, a platform that stemmed from the quota reformation movement. He also works as a correspondent of news portal Campus Express.
