BADC seeds need to be more accessible to farmers, the agriculture secretary said
Agriculture Secretary Md Mesbahul Islam said Bangladesh Agriculture Development Corporation (BADC) will be working to ensure food security in the country and also contribute to the outside world.
He said: "Apart from agricultural production, we want to ensure food security so that we can contribute to the outside world. That is why we have to revolutionize agriculture by increasing the efficiency of agricultural institutions. Change will surely come if we work efficiently.”
He made the remark in an event at the headquarters of BADC on Thursday, a media statement said.
In his speech, the agriculture secretary said that the agriculture of this country has expanded in the way shown by the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
“By implementing the plan of the prime minister we have become self-sufficient in food. BADC seeds need to be more accessible to farmers. Foreign dependence should be reduced by producing potato seeds and onion seeds,” he said.
Md Mahbubul Islam, additional secretary (Fertilizer Management and Materials) of the Ministry of Agriculture addressed the meeting as a special guest while Md Sayedul Islam, chairman of BADC, presided over the meeting.
The agriculture secretary laid a wreath at the mural of the Bangabandhu at BADC and planted BADC avocado-1 seedlings on the roof. He also visited the Bangabandhu Corner which is set up in the library of BADC.
Senior BADC officials, CBA leaders and leaders of various professional organizations were present at the event.
