The hotline number 01320042055 is open 24 hours a day
The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has launched a quick response and hotline number to prevent violence against women.
Victims can reach the 24-hour hotline by dialling 01320042055. As soon as a complaint is received, the response team of DMP will go to the spot and assist them.
DMP Commissioner Shafiqul Islam inaugurated the hotline number at the Women Support and Investigation Division in Tejgaon Thana Complex on Tuesday, reports Bangla Tribune.
The DMP commissioner said: "Whenever a woman in the capital feels insecure or feels they might be harmed by a person, she should call this number. Immediately our team will go there to attend to the matter.
“We are emphasizing on preventing any incident rather than mitigating it.”
He added: "We don't want any woman to face an unfortunate incident. We are doing this in an effort to listen to them. We will build the team in such a way that any woman can share her feelings of insecurity with us.
“There will be a car here at all times and more cars will be added later. We will work with the hope that we can build a strong team and respond like 999.”

The DMP commissioner said: "We have seen in an analysis of crimes that incidents like violence against women have increased during the last 10-15 years, but we do not see any exemplary punishment for these crimes.
“Although the investigation gets completed within two months, the trial of that case continues for two to five years or even 25 years. We cannot do anything in this matter nor is everything under the court’s control. There are many complications regarding witnesses.”
