The 38th death anniversary of Rahatullah Sarkar, a prominent politician, social activist, and an organiser of the Liberation War, was observed on Saturday.
On the occasion, recitation from the Holy Quran, milad mahfil, and food distribution among the poor were held at his residence at Parbatipur in Dinajpur, said a media statement.
Rahatullah, a close associate of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and Deshbandhu Chittaranjan Das, also took part in the forming of Jukta Front in 1954 under the leadership of Sher-e-Bangla AK Fazlul Haque and Hossain Shaheed Suhrawardi.
He also organised freedom fighters at Balurghat area in West Bengal during the Liberation War in 1971.
