The VC of Buet says he believes if there are opportunities in the ICT industry in the country, many meritorious graduates will not leave the country
Speakers at a webinar have urged the government to create positions for ICT professionals to meet the challenges of a technological world.
They made the demand at a webinar on the role of ICT in building a sustainable digital Bangladesh on Monday, a media statement said.
The webinar was organized by the Government ICT Officers Forum.
Bangladesh University of Engineering & Technology (Buet) Vice Chancellor, Prof Satya Prasad Majumder, was the chief guest at the event.
Prof Majumder said: “Digital Bangladesh has made it possible to keep online-based education, business, trade, agriculture, health and government systems afloat, even in this pandemic. Use of information technology and the acquisition of skills in information technology are major factors in the current revolution.”
The Buet VC said he believes if there are opportunities for ICT professionals in the country, many meritorious graduates will not leave the country.
Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Digital University VC, Prof Munaz Ahmed, Noor stressed closing the gap between academia and industry.
He said the role of skilled human resources in higher education is immense, and the role of ICT in creating skilled human resources is undeniable.
Registrar of Joint Stock Companies and Firms (RJSC), Programmer Zikra Amin moderated the event, while Chittagong University of Engineering & Technology (Cuet), Prof Md Shamsul Arefin, presented the keynote address.
He said: “Due to the lack of good careers in ICT in the country, a large number of engineering and other university graduates leave the country every year, depriving the country of their intellectual potential and their innovative energy.”
“Again, many are forced to choose another track or another field because they do not have ICT employment opportunities even after graduating in CSE or CSE related subjects,” he added.
Government ICT Officers Forum President, Md Tomig Uddin Ahmed, presided over the function.
