Four others have been acquitted in the murder case
Six people including Ayesha Siddiqua Minni, wife of murdered youth Rifat Sharif, have been sentenced to death while four others were acquitted.
Earlier, Minni arrived at the Barguna District and Sessions Judges’ Court for the verdict against 10 adult accused in the sensational murder case.
Minni arrived at the court premises accompanied by her father on Wednesday morning.
Earlier on September 16, Barguna District and Sessions Judge Md Asaduzzaman fixed September 30 to deliver the verdict against the accused after hearing arguments from both sides in the case.
The adult accused of the case are Rifat Faraji, 23, Al Kaiyum alias Rabbi Akan, 21, Mohaiminul Islam Sifat, 19, Rezwan Ali Khan Hridoy alias Tiktok Hridoy, 22, Md Hasan, 19, Md Musa, 22, Ayesha Siddika Minni, 19, Rafiul Islam Rabbi, 20, Md Sagar, 19, and Kamrul Hasan Saymun, 21.
The sixth accused, Md Musa, is currently on the run.
Of the adults accused, only Minni has been on bail granted by the High Court.
On June 26, 2019, Rifat Sharif, 22, was mercilessly hacked by a group of individuals in broad daylight in Barguna town, even as his wife Ayesha Siddiqua Minni tried to save him.
He died from his injuries at Barisal Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital later in the evening.
The next day, Rifat’s father filed a case of murder at Sadar police station.
On September 1 the same year, police submitted two separate charge sheets against Minni and 23 others, including 10 adults and 14 minors.
On January 8, 2020, Judge Md Hafizur Rahman framed charges against 14 accused juveniles, after concluding the hearing of defence and prosecution lawyers.
Earlier on August 10, judicial proceedings of the murder case resumed after five months. It had been halted over the coronavirus pandemic. The trial against the 10 adult accused began at the same court.
