Visa approval rate tripled in four years
The number of Bangladeshi applicants granted multiple-entry Schengen visas has almost tripled in four years, up to 52.5% in 2019 from 20.4% in 2015.
The number of applications filed at the Schengen Embassies in Dhaka had also been continuously increasing till 2019, with a 66.5% increase compared to 2015, according to a press release.
According to Schengen visa statistics, 3,323 (20.4%) out of 16,289 multiple-entry visa applications were granted in 2015, while 6,415(37.2%) out of 17,265 were granted in 2016, and 9,511(48.4%) out of 19,652 visas were granted in 2017. A total 9,133(45.7%) out of 19,997 visa applications were granted in 2018, and 12,023(52.5%) out of 22,903 were granted in 2019.
The main reasons why Bangladeshis have their Schengen visa applications rejected are the absence of a convincing purpose of travel to the Schengen Area, not enough means of subsistence, criminal past of the applicants, absence of documents as travel insurance, proof of accommodation and booked travel tickets, among other reasons, the press release said.
In Bangladesh, not all Schengen Countries have embassies and consulates granting visas to applicants. In the last year, only the following countries processed visa applications of Bangladeshi citizens wishing to travel to one of the Schengen countries: Denmark, France, Germany, Italy, Netherlands, Spain, Sweden, and Switzerland.
These eight embassies also admit and process applications for the remaining 18 Schengen countries that do not have an embassy or consulate responsible for visa procedures in Bangladesh.
