Health Minister Dr Zahid Maleque has said the health condition of none of the Narayanganj mosque fire victims are stable, all of their respiratory tracts are burnt.
He made the statement after visiting the victims at Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery in Dhaka on Sunday.
The minister said: “At least 37 fire victims were admitted to the institute. Of them, 24 have died. Around 70% to 80% of their bodies were burnt.
“The other 13 patients are still admitted in the hospital -- all of their respiratory tracts are burnt. Five or six of them are in very critical condition. Doctors are trying their best,” he added.
However, the minister still hopes that some of the patients might recover.
“A case has been filed, probe committees are formed and steps will be taken against those found guilty,” said the minister.

“We are planning to build a burn unit at every hospital of the country,” he added.
Meanwhile, State Minister for Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief Dr Enamur Rahman also visited the victims with the health minister.
Dr Enamur said: “The government will give Tk20,000 to each of the deceased’s family and Tk 10,000 to those who are injured.
“We will discuss with the prime minister on how the families will recover from this huge loss and help them accordingly,” he added.
So far, a total of 24 people, including a child, have died from burn injuries sustained during the air conditioner blast -- which took place at Baitus Salah Jame Mosque in Narayanganj’s Fatullah area around 9pm on Friday.
Dr Samanta Lal Sen, chief coordinator of Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery, confirmed the matter.
