Health minister takes full responsibility for the medical treatment of Wahida Khanam
NINHS Director Prof Dr Quazi Deen Mohammad said, after a long surgery, that Dinajpur UNO Wahida Khanam is now in stable condition but still not out of danger.
However, the patient never completely lost consciousness, he added.
The surgery took place from 9pm to 11:20pm on Thursday. After the operation, she was shifted to the intensive care unit (ICU) of the National Institute of Neuro Sciences and Hospital (NINSH) where she is currently undergoing treatment.
At least nine head injuries were found while the broken piece of skull bone, which was pressed inside, was removed during the surgery, said one of the doctors who performed the surgery.
“Her condition is better than last night. She is stable but not out of danger. As she suffered brain hemorrhage, anything might happen. It will take time to confirm anything on her improvement,” he told Dhaka Tribune on Friday.
According to him, the injuries have paralyzed the right side of her body.
Meanwhile, Health and Family Welfare Minister Zahid Maleque has taken full responsibility for the medical care of Wahida Khanam, Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) of Dinajpur’s Ghoraghat.
Public Relations Officer of the Health Ministry, Maidul Islam Prodhan, said the minister conveyed the message on a Thursday night phone call.
The minister also strongly condemned the vicious attack, demanding a speedy arrest and punishment of the culprits.

Following the surgery on Thursday, doctors said Wahida would be kept on observation.
“Her injury is very critical ... We have to keep her under observation for the next 72 to 96 hours. We have to be prepared for any kind of situation,” NINSH Joint Director Prof Md Badrul Alam Mondal told Bangla Tribune.
He said they were also consulting with Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University Hospital Vice Chancellor, Prof Kanak Kanti Barua, and Dhaka Medical College Prof Raziul Haque.
Wahida and her father were critically injured in an attack by, as yet unidentified assailants, at her government residence early Thursday.
According to local sources, the miscreants stormed into the UNO's residence. After entering the house, they started attacking UNO Wahida.
Her father Omar Ali was also seriously injured when he tried to come to his daughter's rescue.
Both of them were first taken to Rangpur Medical College Hospital from where UNO Khanam was shifted to the ICU of Rangpur Community Medical College Hospital.
The UNO was later airlifted to Dhaka by a Bangladesh Air Force helicopter in the afternoon, and was admitted to the National Institute of Neuro Sciences and Hospital.
