The government will also allow public transports to carry passengers at full capacity at regular fare from September 1

The government has lifted restrictions on movement and activities for the public starting Tuesday, surprisingly at a time when the country continues to record large numbers of new Covid-19 cases every day.

In a circular on Monday, the cabinet division notified that the directives on public movement do not include the ban on leaving residences at night without urgent need.

Also, there will be no bar on movement after 10pm from September 1 as it was not mentioned in the new government circular.

Similarly, the government will also allow public transports to carry passengers at full capacity at regular fares from September 1, withdrawing its previous directive of carrying passengers at half capacity with 60% hiked fare.

At the same time, Bangladesh Railway will start selling tickets for all local, mail, and commuter trains at the stations from September 5, but will continue to carry half of its passenger capacity as enforced during the pandemic.

Meanwhile, Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) has been considering allowing motorcycle-based ride-sharing services to resume soon.

A previous order issued on August 3 enforced strict obedience of a ban on staying outdoors between 10pm and 5am, unless an emergency. It order also enforced closure of all shops, markets, and malls after 8pm and prohibited all types of mass gatherings.

In the new circular, the cabinet division also directed concerned ministries, divisions, and authorities concerned to take necessary steps to implement safety guidelines set by the government on public movement and other activities.

It also asked authorities to ensure that people wear face masks and maintain social distancing in public.

Local Government Division, Information Ministry, Religious Affairs Ministry, Health Services Division, district and upazila administrations will also hold public awareness campaigns to curb the spread of the deadly virus, said the new government directive.

At the same time, respective authorities will also need to ensure legal action, including operating mobile courts, against those who violate hygiene rules, the circular added.

On Monday, Bangladesh recorded 33 more deaths from Covid-19 and 2,174 new cases in a span of 24 hours. So far, the country has recorded a total of 4,281 deaths from the virus, while the number of all confirmed cases stand at 312,996.
