Death toll reaches 4,206
Bangladesh has recorded 32 more deaths from Covid-19 in the last 24 hours, taking the number of total fatalities to 4,206.
The country also logged more than 308,000 coronavirus cases with 2,131 people testing positive over the same period.
With this development, the number of all confirmed cases so far jumped to 308,925.
The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) revealed the latest figures on Covid-19 in the country with a press release on Saturday.
Of the 32 deceased, including 26 men, 11 were from Dhaka division, nine from Chittagong, five from Barisal, three each from Sylhet and Rangpur, and one from Khulna division.
So far, 3,300 men (78.46%) and 906 women (21.54%) have died from Covid-19 across the country.
The mortality rate against the total number of cases detected so far stands at 1.36%.
The DGHS said 11,438 samples were collected from suspected Covid-19 patients in the last 24 hours.
As many as 11,689 samples, including the pending ones, were tested in the 92 authorized labs -- government and private -- across the country and 2,131 new patients were confirmed.
The latest figures show an infection rate of 18.23%.
To date, 1,525,815 tests have been conducted in the country, leading to an overall infection rate of 20.25% so far.
The health authorities said 2,027 people recovered from the disease over the preceding 24 hours.
So far, 198,863 patients — 64.37% of all infected — have made full recovery across the country.
On March 8, health authorities in Bangladesh reported the first three cases of Covid-19, a severe acute respiratory illness caused by a new coronavirus strain which was later named Sars-CoV-2.
The novel coronavirus broke out in China's Wuhan city in late December last year and quickly spread throughout the world, becoming a pandemic in less than three months.
The fast spreading coronavirus has claimed 841,984 lives and infected 24,939,761 people across the world till Saturday afternoon, according to Worldometer.
As many as 17,317,387 people have recovered from Covid-19 which has spread to 213 countries and territories across the planet.
