In the month of February, the Tabligh Jamaat members went to India and later they were accused of transmitting Covid-19

India handed over 14 people, among the 265 arrested Tabligh Jamaat members from Bangladesh, to immigration police through the Benapole check post on Friday around 11am.

Indian police arrested the Tabligh Jamaat members at different times during their visit in India, and they had passports. They are currently kept in institutional quarantine for 14 days in Gajir Dargah area of Jessore's Jhikargacha upazila, confirmed Mohasin Khan, officer-in-charge of the immigration police at Benapole check post.

Begining from the month of February, the 265 Tabligh Jamaat members went to India and later they were accused of transmitting Covid-19.

Indian police arrested them and courts sent them to different terms in jail in Indian state Uttar Pradesh. The decision to return the 14 was taken following discussion between high officials of the two countries after their jail term ended, according to sources from police.

Habibur Rahman, medical officer from the health department of Benapole check post, said: "We have conducted medical examinations of the returnees as they took part in mass Jamaat in different parts of India for a long time. They were kept under institutional quarantine of the government for 14 days to determine if they are infected with the coronavirus(Covid-19)."
