Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal said no one will be spared in the murder case of Major (retd) Sinha Md Rashed Khan.
Action will be taken against those involved after receiving the investigation report, the minister told journalists when they went to meet him at his residence in Dhaka on Friday.
The minister said: “Once the investigation report is there, we can tell whether the Cox's Bazar superintendent of police (SP) was involved or not. We can also confirm the names of people responsible for the murder.
“Nothing can be said before that.”
“Our prime minister is not making any concessions. She is working to establish the rule of law. Action will be taken on the basis of the investigation report for the Cox’s Bazar incident,” he added.
Sinha’s older sister filed a case against nine people -- including Teknaf police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Pradip and Baharchhara Check-post In-Charge Liakat. Seven policemen were sent to jail and three of them were placed on a seven-day remand by a Cox's Bazar court.
“We are yet to receive any official document with instructions from the court,” said Asaduzzaman.
“The two other accused were Sub-Inspector Tutul and constable Mostafa. However, no policemen with these names work in Cox’s Bazar and could not be arrested,” he added.
About the two detained students of Stamford University Bangladesh, Asaduzzaman said if the probe committee says they are innocent, they will be released soon.
“We will do nothing before the investigation ends. We expect the probe committee to give us a proper investigation report and we will act accordingly. As I said earlier, everything will unravel once the investigation report is ready,” he added.
Asked about the allegations against OC Pradip, the minister said: “Teknaf is an area next to the Myanmar border. Lots of things happen there. The police department closely monitors the wrongdoings of the police which includes OC Pradip and takes action accordingly.”
“I do not know all the allegations against him right now. If you search in the police department, you will find out, “he added.
Letter from Health Ministry
On a separate note, about the letter from the Health Ministry to stop raids on hospitals, Asaduzzaman said: “We had a meeting with them. All the arrangements, instructions and notifications for the Covid-19 pandemic are coming from the Health Ministry. If they ask us to cooperate, we will do so.”
“A few hospitals have been selected to conduct the Covid-19 tests. We received some complaints that two or three of them were providing fake certificates without testing. On information, we raided those places as you have seen,” he added.
“Immediately after those operations, the prime minister issued a directive. According to the directive, all raids should be carried out after informing the Health Ministry. We have instructed the police and RAB accordingly,” said the minister.
