PM Hasina assures ex-major Sinha’s mother of fair trial

The prime minister called Sinha’s mother on Tuesday morning

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has assured the mother of retired army major Sinha Md Rashed Khan, who was shot dead by police in Cox’s Bazar on Friday, of proper investigation and fair trial of his killers. 

The prime minister called up Sinha's mother on Tuesday and consoled her, PM's Press Secretary Ihsanul Karim said. 

She also assured Sinha's mother of providing financial help to her. 

Ihsanul Karim said Sinha's family thanked the prime minister for enquiring about them.

Retired Bangladesh Army major Sinha Md Rashed was killed in police firing at Baharchhara police check post in Teknaf, Cox's Bazar on the night of July 31. 

Cox's Bazar Superintendent of Police ABM Masud Hossain told Dhaka Tribune that acting on a tip-off, Teknaf police had set up a check post on Marine Drive looking to bust suspected robbers onboard a vehicle. 

“When police stopped the former army officer’s vehicle and tried to search it, he pulled a gun on the police personnel, prompting the police to shoot him in self-defence,” the SP added.

On Sunday, 16 police members were closed from Baharchhara police point and attached to the Cox’s Bazar Police Line, SP Masud Hossain told said.

On the same day, the Ministry of Home Affairs formed a probe committee to investigate Sinha’s killing.
