Agriculture minister calls for more monitoring to minimize farmers’ losses

'Farmers are passing the days in uncertainty during the floods and effective work is needed to minimize losses after the flood water recedes'

Agriculture Minister Dr Muhammad Abdur Razzaque on Tuesday called on the officials concerned to closely monitor and supervise field activities in flood-hit areas to minimize and recoup the losses of farmers as soon as possible.

“Farmers are passing the days in uncertainty during the floods and effective work is needed to minimize losses after the flood water recedes,” he said during an online meeting with staff of the ministry, reports UNB.

The government has already formed 14 committees for monitoring and coordination of relief activities, including the disbursement of fertilizer and seeds. The officials concerned of the ministry will have to work alongside the committees.

The committees have started monitoring the implementation of incentive packages of the government, to ensure production of food and minimize the losses of the farmers in 38 flood-hit districts.

Secretary Md Nasiruzzaman will monitor the activities of the committees and Additional Secretary Md Hasanuzzaman will coordinate.

Committee members will hold regular online meetings and coordinate distribution programs in flood-affected districts.

Additional Secretary Md Hasanuzzaman, Additional Secretary (Admin) Arifur Raman Apu, Additional Secretary (Research) Kamalaranjan Das and other officials concerned of the ministry were present at the meeting.
