Total confirmed cases in the country approaching 240,000
Bangladesh recorded its second highest daily infection rate since the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic on Saturday, with 24.98% of tests conducted in the previous 24 hours coming back positive.
A total 8,802 samples were tested between Friday morning and Saturday morning, with 2,199 tests coming back positive. With the fresh cases, the total number of confirmed cases in the country now stands at 239,860.
A further 8,669 samples were collected for testing in the same period.
Bangladesh recorded its highest daily infection rate of 25.23% on July 15.
The latest figures were revealed by the health authorities at the daily online bulletin on the Covid-19 pandemic on Saturday. Till date, 1,185,611 tests have been conducted in the country, with an overall infection rate of 20.23%, so far.
In the last 24 hours, 21 patients -- 16 men and five women – died from Covid-19, while 1,117 people recovered from the disease.
The mortality rate against the total number of cases detected currently stands at 1.31%.
So far, a total of 136,253 patients — 56.81% of all confirmed cases — have made full recovery across the country.
