Diplomats, staff of UN agencies, heads of international organizations and their family members will enjoy exemptions

The government has made obtaining and showing a Covid-19 negative certificate mandatory for all passengers before they fly out of Bangladesh.

All Bangladeshi citizens departing from any airport of the country on any airline were allowed to do so after showing Covid-19 PCR test results at the time of check-in since July 23, foreign passport holders from July 26.

Passengers have to mandatorily carry the certificate issued by 16 government-listed testing facilities and the test must be done not more than 72 hours before the flight.

Air-Vice Marshal M Mafidur Rahman, chairman of Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (CAAB), said they have directed all aviation companies to accept test reports issued by government-approved laboratories only.

Where and how can you get a test report?

Passengers can take a Covid-19 test at any of the 16 government approved facilities around the country.

They will have to show their passports and air tickets to the testing facilities when giving samples for the novel coronavirus test.

A passenger will have to pay Tk3,500 for tests for samples provided at collection booths. An additional Tk1,000 will be charged if samples are collected from home.

After giving their samples for testing, passengers must remain in home isolation until the day of departure.

At all testing facilities, there will be separate booths for foreigners and Bangladeshi passengers, said the CAAB chairman.

Service at test facilities will be available from 8am every day.

A passenger, when they go for testing, will have to take their passport, a scanned copy of the passport’s main page, and a copy of the ticket and flight itinerary (one for each passenger).

At the testing facility, passengers will have to fill out a sample collection form before giving a sample at the designated booth.

Exemptions

The government, however, has made some exemptions for foreign passport holders.

Diplomats, officials of the UN and its sister organizations, and heads of international organizations and their family members, are not required to have the Covid-19 negative certificate.

Also, foreign investors and foreign passport holders who have stayed in Bangladesh for less than 14 days, and children below the age of 10, have been exempted from this requirement.
