A mobile court of the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has seized fake medicines worth Tk20 lakh at Mitford Hospital medicine market in Old Dhaka.

Officials from the Directorate General of Drug Administration (DGDA) also participated in the drive on Saturday afternoon.

The mobile court sentenced the owner of a medicine store named Mizanur Rahman to two years of imprisonment in this regard.

Palash Kumar Bosu, executive magistrate of RAB, said the elite force had been keeping surveillance on the market for days as there were reports of sales of counterfeit medicines there. Although there were several drives conducted in the area, many businesses continued selling fake and subpar medicines.

RAB-10 officer Major Mohammad Anisuzzaman said Mizanur had been selling fake medicines of different well-known brands. These fake medicines were manufactured with only flour.

During primary interrogation, Mizanur confessed that some people had been supplying these fake medicine tables to his shop, said the RAB officer.
